Bike paths on Lake Garda to try out

The fresh wind in your hair, riding up and down the mountains surrounded by nature, panoramic views to admire from above: have you ever thought of discovering the area near the lake by bike?

Cycling on one of the many bike paths of Lake Garda is an experience that we always recommend to our guests because it allows you to grasp the true essence of the beautiful areas of Alto Garda valley .A slow and sustainable way to explore which is suited for everyone: sportsmen, families, groups of friends and couples. So, if you are planning to spend your holiday on Lake Garda or maybe you have already booked it, do not miss the chance to experience an adventure on two wheels suspended between Lake and Mountain.

To help you choose the right bike path for you, we have selected three bike routes that, in our opinion, will allow you to experience the most characteristic places of Lake Garda.

1. Torbole- Mori bike path: villages, culture and lake

24 km | cycling time: 4 hours (round trip)

A beautiful bike route, also suitable for families with children, connecting Lake Garda to Adige valley. Along the way, you will cross several points of interest and attractions accompanied by colorful vineyards, lakes, rivers and small villages. The bike route is on an asphalt road, which starts from Piazza Goethe in Torbole, passes through the town of Nago, then reaches the highest and panoramic point “Passo San Giovanni” and arrives at Lake Loppio. From there, after cycling next to the celestial waters of the lake, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful orchards and vineyards surrounding the bike path and see the special barriers and underpasses created to protect the passage of toads and amphibians during the spawning period. Next, you will find the village of Mori, where the official bike path ends. However, for those who still have energy, there is the possibility to continue by taking “Adige bike route” and in an hour, crossing Adige River and Leno River, you will reach Rovereto and its beautiful old town.

2.  Ponale trail: tunnels, mountains and panoramic views

34 km | 4 hours (round trip)

A panoramic bike path on a mixed road, asphalt and dirt road, which goes from Riva del Garda to “Val di Ledro”. Mountain, lake, history and nature alternate throughout the path offering unique and moving experiences. You will start from the city center of Riva del Garda then you will take the road “Gardesana Occidentale S.S. 45bis” towards Limone, following the D01 route. Tunnels carved into the rock, breathtaking views and the tranquility of nature will accompany you up until the beautiful Lake Ledro. From there, after a few switchbacks, you will reach Pregasina: where the bike path ends. On the way back you will enjoy a relaxing way downhill that will take you back to Riva.  We suggest undertaking this itinerary, of medium difficulty, with a mountain bike or an e-bike, in order to fully enjoy your trip in total safety.

3. Cycle path “valle dei laghi”: castles, history and nature

60 km | 6 hours (round trip)

Among the most known and popular bike routes in the area, the bike path Torbole-Sarche allows you to discover all the beauties that distinguish Lake Garda: orchards, castles, wonderful green areas and mountains. The bike rout begins in “Linfano di Torbole”, you will then follow the directions for the bike route ”Valle dei laghi”; the route is of medium difficulty and it develops entirely on paved roads that lead to natural landscapes, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Along this beautiful cycle path, you will find the castle and the city center of Arco, “Marocche di Dro” (a spectacular valley completely covered by gigantic rocks), “Monte Taglio di Sarca”, the village of Pietramurata and finally Sarche. But do not stop there: continuing for another 2 km you will reach Toblino with its charming castle where you can find refreshment and some well-deserved rest before starting your trip back.
